Autumn is our favourite season and probably the best time to visit Croatia. There are no crowds, temperatures are mild – it is not hot, nor too cold, the sea is still warm… Plus, it is cheaper to travel and without touristic fuss you can really experience the way local people live.

Croatia has different regions but whichever you choose, you won’t regret it. You can enjoy good food and nice weather. Or you can opt for a more active vacation such as picking grapes and olives, learning how to pick mushrooms or how to gather chestnuts.

Numerous food festivals take place in autumn: Autumn flavours in Brtonigla, Chesnut festival in Oprtalj, Pumpkin festival in Ivanić grad, the Days of young olive oil in Vodnjan, Chocolate Festival in Opatija

Autumn is also great for hiking, cycling or just walking in nature. If you would like to visit some of the most popular destination in Croatia such as Plitivice or Krka National Park, this is probably the best time to do it.

And while you contemplate about your next trip to Croatia, enjoy a dozen of photos taken by Boris Kačan. He managed to captivate autumn in all its glorious colors.
