Almost half of its islands are uninhabited – Tijat, Zmajan and Kakan are biggest ones having no inhabitants.
It is a very popular archipelago for yachtsmen although the navigation through its waters is not very easy due to numerous islands, islets and reefs.
There are four marinas in this area: Marina Tribunj, ACI marina Vodice, Marina Mandalina in Sibenik and Marina Kremik in Primošten.
Zlarin, Prvic andKrapanj are closest to the mainland. These islands have been populated for centuries, they have picturesque small villages and are traffic free.
Zirje is an exception – due to its strategic position as an outer island it used to be military base from ancient times. That is why there are roads and all sorts of vehicles including old military ones.
The distances are short, so on a daily speedboat tour you can see a lot.
